Due to the similarity to human in brain structures and functions, monkeys play an important role in the study of human brain mechanism, especially about the relationship between brain and behaviors. Eye movement is the simplest movement that can be accurately measured and its basic neural control circuit is well studied. Therefore, as excellent model of brain movement control mechanisms, the eye movement control system (especially in awake monkeys) plays an important role in the study of the neural basis of brain movement control. "Monitoring" and "Imitation" are two important ways to understand the neural circuits of the brain. "Monitoring" means to record the neuronal activities with microelectrode, and "Imitation" means to use the electrical stimulation to excite related neurons in different brain regions and nuclei. If we can use both technologies at the same time, such as to record the downstream region of the brain while stimulating the upstream region, it will be easier to understand how these regions work together. However, the stimulation will cause a huge artifact to the neuronal activities through electromagnetic interference when the electrical stimulation take actions, and it will make the observation of the neuronal activity became extremely difficult. Up till now, there is no effective method to solve this problem. The main contribution of this study is to develop a Labview-based research system for the study of the eye movement and its brain mechanisms on the awake monkeys. The most important part of this system is Electronic stimulus artifact elimination system, which is built to overcome the difficulties of observing the neuronal activities while electric stimulating. This technique is under the process of applying for a patent. The whole system consists of four main parts: Eye movement control system, Recording system, Electrical stimulation system and Electrical stimulation artifact elimination system. Labview was used to control the hardware and analyze all the data. A lot of experiments had been carried out using this system and a large number of experimental results had already verified the system's stability and flexibility.
