Fast eye movement, voluntary movement inhibition and highly activated brain activity are unique phenomenas during REM sleep, these phenomenas provides us opportunity to research the sleep mechanism , REM sleep is a specical state in which fast eye movement occurs that are similar to fast eye movement during wake state,. For sleep are necessities for human and animal living, research on REM sleep will make great scientific meaning and improvement of public health. Till now, it is still not clear that why there must be a sleep state . Based on the similarity between REM sleep fast eye movement and normal fast eye movement, we assume that superior colliculus which are well known as an important control unit in normal fast eye movement also teke part in the prosess of REM sleep fast eye movement. In order to investigate this issue, we estabilshed two unique key technics to find out whether superior colliculus are involved in this movemen: complete lesion of superior coliculcus and long term sleep electrophysiology recording and got some early results.
